Barcelona World Race
Issued 0300Z 02-JAN-2015
*** SYNOPSIS ***
00Z FRIDAY (02-JAN-2015):
1)    A multi-center high pressure covers southwest Europe, the southwestern
Med, most of the Iberian coast and western Algeria. One high is
centered over southwestern France (1038mb). A second high (1039mb) is
over central Spain with a third over northern Algeria (1037mb). A high
center (1038mb) is also off the west Iberian coast centered near
40N/13W.
2)    A lee side trough of low pressure extends northeast along the Moroccan
coast toward Tangier.
3)    A NE/E wind is over the Southwestern Med but is easing under the high
pressure ridge between Spain and Algeria.
4)    Moderate Eíly flow is over the Alboran Se and is expected to persist
in the gradient between the Spanish high and trough.
00Z SATURDAY (03-JAN-2015):
1)    The multi-centered high pressure will continue across southwest Europe.
Primary centers of high pressure will be over central Spain (1039mb),
northern Algeria (1039mb) and over the Atlantic west of Portugal
(1039mb) near 41N/13W.
2)    A trough of low pressure will persist just off the Moroccan coast from
Lanzarote to Gibraltar with little change from today.
3)    Moderate Eíly winds will very gradually ease across the Alboran Sea
from east to west.
4)    Eílies will channel through Gibraltar and accelerated downwind of the
strait, extending in a solid band of pressure will west to 10W before
easing west of there.
5)    The above pattern is relatively static and unchanging, through slow
weakening of the high pressure will eventually lead to some easing and
backing of the Eíly flow from Alboran, through Gibrlatar, and into the
Gulf of Cadiz.
00Z SUNDAY (04-JAN-2015):
1)    High pressure (1039mb) will be centered off the northwest Spanish
coast near 42N/12W.
2)    A trough of low pressure continues off the Moroccan coast as the
previous days, through it will be weakening through Sunday.
3)    Eíly flow downwind of Gibraltar and across the Gulf of Cadiz will be
easing with time. West of about 15W, there will be E veering SE flow
around the western periphery of the high pressure to the north.
4)    Further south, there is wide area of anomalous E/SE flow out of
northern Africa and across the Canary Island. Winds are fresh, with
the winds covering and area south of 32N down to 24N. The exception is
areas northeast of Lanzarote where the trough is keeping winds lighter.
00Z MONDAY (05-JAN-2015):
1)    Weak low pressure (1030mb) is likely off Casablanca.
2)    High pressure (1032mb) will be move to north of Madeira near 36N/12W.
3)    A trough of low pressure will be off the African coast northeast of
the Cape Verde Islands, extending north to 24N/17W.
4)    Light Nílies between the high and Casablanca low.
5)    The anomalous SE flow across the Canary Island will continue, but
weaken and shink in areal coverage.
