Having passed Gibraltar, Renault Captur is on the home stretch. Fresh E’lies and building seas have greeted them, so progress is slow as they sail upwind. Little change is expected today, and they will likely find winds actually increasing with distance east. Relief will be found along the Spanish coast where lighter winds and moderated seas are found, especially in the afternoon when sea breezes are present. Spirit of Hungary has finally gotten a more favorable wind pattern to start making better pace toward Gibraltar. A low pressure will be moving to their north bringing increasing winds with favorable angles today. There are still some lighter winds that will slow them again before reaching

*** SYNOPSIS ***00Z MONDAY (13-APR-2015)1) A col region with light and variable winds just southeast of Madeira. A weak ridge will extend from the northwestern Canary Islands west along about 27N.2) Low pressure (1014mb) near 35N/22W with a front wrapping out of the low to 30N/20W then west-southwest to 28N/27W. A push of N’ly breeze moves south in the wake of the front, veering NW across the Canaries and around the southern periphery of the low pressure.3) Light and variable winds along the Moroccan coast, with daytime sea breezes. A fresh E’ly flow out of the Gibraltar Strait and across the northern Gulf of Cadiz.4) High pressure over northwestern and south-central Europe drives a fresh NE/E flow south of Spain. Lighter conditions along the east coast and across the Balearic Sea. Sea breezes will be widespread along the coast in the afternoon.00Z TUESDAY (14-APR-2015)1) Low pressure (1016mb) northeast of Madeira near 35N/14W. A cold front extends from the low south to Lanzarote southwest to 24N/23W to 24N/35W. Winds N’ly west of the low, backing NW across Madeira to 30N and the waters west of the Canary Islands.2) East of the cold front and low, mainly light winds from along the Moroccan coast north to about 35N in the Gulf of Cadiz. At and north of 25N, winds E’ly and generally moderate in strength.3) Fresh to strong E’ly flow through Gibraltar Strait. 4) High pressure over the western Med will support a fresh to strong NE/E flow from Palma to south of Almeria. Backed gradient flow (NE) may result in lighter winds off Gibraltar to Almeria. Lighter winds along the Spanish coast, with a good chance of afternoon sea breezes.5) Light NE winds Gulf of Valencia. Off Barcelona, winds will be light and variable, with local sea breezes dominant there.00Z WEDNESDAY (15-APR-2015)1) Low pressure (1013mb) moves to 38N/12W or southwest of Lisbon. A broad NW flow around the western periphery of the low, backing W to the Moroccan coast and then southwest into the Gulf of Cadiz. The low will be slowly weakening, and so will the flow around it.2) A complex pattern will be developing into the southwestern Med, with a low pressure (1015mb) east of Gibraltar.
