South of the Doldrums, ESE trade winds build with distance south.
While the general trade wind regime is well established, there are some
speed instabilities than will benefit or hurt boats unevenly.

*** SYNOPSIS ***
00Z TUESDAY (13-JAN-2015):
1)    NE trade winds are increasing between the Cape Verde Islands and
northern doldrums boundary. Winds are strongest north of 10N and west
of 27W.
2)    The northern doldrums boundary 6N/20W ñ 5N/25W ñ 4N/30W. The southern
boundary is between 1N and the Equator, though the boundary is very
diffuse west of 25W.
3)    Within the doldrums, winds east of 24W are lighter and much more
patchy. West of 24W, winds appear to be more filled, though best
breezes are west of 27W.
4)    The northern boundary will move south with time, while the southern
boundary will shift slowly north. Eíly winds will generally build
within the doldrums west of 23W.
5)    South of the doldrums, winds are generally ESE, with speed increasing
modestly south of 2S and more so with distance south to 12S.
6)    A broad zone of moderate ESE/E trade winds is found between 12S and
20S between 25W and 35W. Winds will tend to back ESE to E with
distance south.
7)    The South Atlantic high (1022mb) will be centered near 26S/26W.
00Z WEDNESDAY (14-JAN-2015):
1)    North of the doldrums, trade winds light-moderate NE at 20W increasing
moderate at 30W.
2)    The doldrums will be shifting south once again. The northern boundary
will be near 2N/30W - 3N/25W at 5N/20W. The southern boundary will
move north to 1N to 2N.
3)    Within the doldrums, light and variable conditions east of 25W.
Otherwise ENE tending E west of 25W. The zone will be narrowest with
stronger cross-flow west of 28W.
4)    South of the doldrums, light moderate ESE trade winds from 1N to 5S.
5)    Moderate ESE/SE trades 5S to 10S.
6)    Between 10S and 22S, mainly moderate ESE trade winds in the zone
between 25W and 35W. Note winds will be more SE east of 25W and more
ESE/E west of 30W.
7)    The South Atlantic high (1022mb) will shift a little west to 27S/28W
with a ridge extending east of the high center. The High will be
tending to elongate east along 27S as well.
00Z THURSDAY (15-JAN-2015):
1)    Northern doldrums boundary will be shifting south to around 3N.
Doldrums will be wider with lighter and more variable winds east of
25W. East of 25W, light NE/E increasing to light-moderate at 30W.
2)    The southern doldrums boundary will be between the Equator and 1N,
except closer to the Equator east of 23W.
3)    South of the Equator, ESE veering SE south of 2S.
4)    A moderate to fresh ESE trade wind will be west of 27W and south of 5S.
East of 27W, winds will veer more SEíly.
5)    South of 10N, steady ESE trades, mainly moderate in strength, though a
little lighter than previous days and tending left toward the E with
time.
6)    South f 20S, winds tending much lighter west of 30W.
7)    The South Atlantic high (1021mb) will be near 28S/28W.
8)    A deep low (992mb) will be near 39S/39W, with a cold front northwest
to near Florianopolis, moving northwest. A broad zone of fresh to
strong Níly will be in place from off Cabo Frio, south, ahead of the
cold front.
00Z FRIDAY (16-JAN-2015):
1)    The doldrums will be expanding and shifting south. Very light winds
are expected to develop between 2N and 2S, along with widespread
showers and thunderstorms.
2)    South of 2S, winds generally E/ESE all the way south to 20S. Winds
will back more E/ENE west of 35W and E/ESE east of 25W, especially
south of 13S.
3)    High pressure (1021mb) will be near 27S/26W. West of the high pressure,
winds back NE to N to set up pre-frontal gradient ahead of a cold
front. The front will extend from near Paranagua southeast to 30S/40W
and 33S/30W. Winds between the front and southern side of the high
pressure will be mainly moderate NW.
4)    The front wil be stationary or shifting south with time.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms within the doldrums region. Clearing
south of the equator. Showers west of 30W, especially close to the
Brazilian coast.
