*** SYNOPSIS ***

00Z WEDNESDAY (07-JAN-2015):
1) The NE trade winds are well established south of about 32N. A modest
easing trends is expected north of about 28N through the daylight
hours today, but then building again after sunset.
2) North of 32N, the high pressure/ridge that was from Madeira to
Portugal has weakened and dissipated as an Atlantic cold front sags
south to 34N.
3) Northern trade wind zone (north of about 33N) will shrink to waters
mainly east of 12W. The weakened high pressure ridge from Madeira to
near Lisbon. This will push lighter winds south to 33N west of 12W.
4) A high pressure (1033mb) will be north of the front, centered near
40N/19W.
5) North and northeast of Lanzarote, stronger NE trade winds will hold
east of 13W and south of 32N across to the African coast.
6) South of the Canary Islands, strong 20-25 knot ENE/NE trades will
extend from the African coast well west into the Atlantic and south
beyond the Cape Verde Islands.
7) The acceleration zones will be active between the Canary Islands, with
significant lulls in the lee of the islands extending up to 120nm
downwind.

00Z THURSDAY (08-JAN-2015):
1) The cold front north of Madeira today will stall and dissipate
Thursday.
2) High pressure (1036mb) will be near 39N/18W, holding nearly stationary
and slowly strengthening with time.
3) Moderate NE trade winds will be building north of the Canary Islands,
building fresh through the day. Lighter winds will hold closer to the
African coast.
4) From the Canary Island south, the trade wind zone will be wide and
relatively strong, extending from the Canary Island south/southwest
beyond the Cape Verde Islands and well west to 35W.
5) Note that the acceleration zones will be active between the Canary
Islands, with significant lulls in the lee of the islands extending up
to 120nm downwind.
6) Trade wind strength will generally increase with distance south.

00Z FRIDAY (09-JAN-2015):
1) Strong high pressure (1043mb) will be near 39N/18W.
2) All areas south of 35N are expected to have NE trade winds 20+ knots,
and some areas with 25-30 knots.
3) The trade winds will extend all the way south to the doldrums south of
10N.
4) Some near-gale to gale force winds are likely between the Canary
Islands and downwind of there to about 24N.
5) Another area of even stronger trade wind (25-30 knots) will develop
north and northwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
6) The strong trades are allowing for the doldrums to be well south.
Winds will generally ease south of about 8N, with the northern edge of
the Doldrums near 5N at 25W and 3N at 30W.

00Z SATURDAY (10-JAN-2015):
1) The NE trade winds will remain fresh to strong between the Canary
Islands and Cape Verde Islands.
2) The trade wind zone will continue across to the central Atlantic
beyond 35W with little change.
3) Some easing of the NE trades is expected to begin south of the Cape
Verde Islands and east of 30W.
4) The northern edge of the doldrums will be 5N at 25W and 4N at 30W.
