The Barcelona World Race in leading role at IMOCA General Assembly
The round the world regatta took centre stage at the meeting for directors, skippers and bodies associated with the class in Paris
The Barcelona World Race 2018-2019 played a leading role at the IMOCA General Meeting held at the Nautic Paris Boat Show this week. Xosé Carlos Fernández, CEO of the Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB) described the new features of the 2018-19 edition of the Barcelona World Race in further detail. An audience made up of skippers and those involved in the IMOCA class listened carefully to the sporting and organisational additions to the regatta, set to be officially released to the press on the 13th December at the FNOB headquarters in Barcelona.
The future of the class was also discussed at the meeting, with the IMOCA Board of Directors confirming the Barcelona World Race’s role as a pillar of the IMOCA World Championships racing calendar.
The number of skippers stating an intention to be on the starting line of the double-handed, round-the-world challenge is rising, attracted by the new two-leg format (Barcelona-Sydney-Barcelona) and the regatta’s position on the IMOCA racing calendar alongside the Vendee Globe and other major races.
The IMOCA 60s are boats raced by two skippers, round the world in the Barcelona World Race. The IMOCA General Assembly includes skippers, sponsors, owners and organisers of regattas with IMOCA boats.
