Pitstop in New Zealand for Spirit of Hungary
Hungarian Skipper Nandor Fa and Kiwi co-skipper Conrad Colman on board Spirit of Hungary have tonight confirmed a pitstop in Invercargill, New Zealand, to get a replacement part for a jammed and broken halyard lock slide. After both co-skippers repeated attempts to release the damaged slide have failed, this technical stopover has become inevitable.
Nevertheless, having reached the midpoint of their southern oceans, and now nearly racing in the Pacific, both skippers have confirmed they intend to continue the race as soon as the repairs are completed. The penalty for a technical pitstop is 24 hours, and it starts counting when the boat is moored at the destination port.
