Race leaders Cheminées Poujoulat are being forced on to a more E'ly course in order to stay downwind with a low centre to their but by later on Sunday, they will hit the high pressure parked off Montevideo to Sao Paulo and so Bernard Stamm and Jean Le Cam will move into upwind mode. Meantime they have been making 13kts, Neutrogena have been quicker and so have made a decent 140 miles gain since yesterday.
Guillermo Altadill and Jose Munoz duly rounded Cape Horn early this morning at 0212hrs UTC in 30-35kts winds. Their routing is a bit unclear with a big choice to be made for the Spanish-Chilean duo whether they will go to the west or east of the Falklands. There is a high pressure NE of the Falklands, their breeze will go SW as they progress E but in fact both Neutrogena and GAES Centros Auditivos will end up with upwind sailing.
GAES Centros Auditivos is set to pass nice and close to Cape Horn. Anna Corbella and Gerard Marín have already gybed about 30 miles off the land, they will carry on downwind in about 30kts of breeze and gybe again on a course which should them close enough to Cape Horn to probably see it. They will keep the strong W'ly wind until this afternoon, heading in to the Le Maire straits where the wind will drop significantly and by tonight the Spanish duo will be upwind in 10-15kts. Maybe they talk of the noticeable change between the Pacific and the Atlantic but perhaps this transition will be too marked for them!
We Are Water are in the low pressure just on top of the front and are making 14.3kts, about half a knot faster than One Planet, One Ocean & Pharmaton.
There is 177 miles between them. Renault Captur are 538 miles behind One Planet, One Ocean & Pharmaton and have 30-35 kts of NW'ly breeze on the north of a nice low pressure which they will roll west with until at least Tuesday and so this is a good chance to Jorg Riechers and Seb Audigane to capture these miles back they have been talking about.
And Spirit of Hungary are still very slowed since restarting out of Bluff, making just 2.5kts having covered just 110 miles since restaring at midday yesterday.
