Back in Barcelona this afternoon
Past Ibiza, Valencia and Mallorca, One Planet, One Ocean & Pharmaton are now just 113 miles from the finish of the Barcelona World Race. Having enjoyed much more moderate conditions over their last night, Didac Costa and Aleix Gelabert are anticipated to arrive at the finish line this afternoon.
They were this morning (05:00hrs) maintaining consistent 9 knot boat speeds. Around 120 miles to the south-west, fifth placed We Are Water were sailing fractionally quicker this morning, but their 24-hour average tells the story – at 2-3 knots slower they now have almost the same margin to One Planet One Ocean & Pharmaton as Aleix and Didac do to the finish, and conditions are forecast to lighten for them over the course of the day. The Garcia brothers are forecast to arrive in fifth place tomorrow morning.
Renault Captur has now reached the latitude of Madeira, 340 miles directly to their east as they make a straight path towards the Straits of Gibraltar at 12-13 knots, now less than 950 miles away. Meanwhile Spirit of Hungary has overnight passed the latitude of the Cape Verde archipelago.
