Alex Thomson confirms Barcelona World Race entry with 'Hugo Boss'
The British transoceanic sailor Alex Thomson, who finished in second place with his IMOCA Open 60 Hugo Boss in the latest Vendée Globe round the world solo race, has confirmed that he will be taking part in the Barcelona World Race 2018/19.
"This city is the start and finish for the Barcelona World Race, which is the key event on my racing calendar for the next couple of years”, said the skipper.
Thomson, 43 years-old, has been taking part in aa number of events in the Spanish city with double Olympic medallist Theresa Zabell, launching the 2018-19 calendar.
The Barcelona World Race, the double-handed (two crew) round the world challenge, will set off from Barcelona on the 12th of January 2019.
With sponsor Hugo Boss since 2003, Thomson has completed four Vendée Globes and has sailed round the world six times.
Hugo Boss (GBR-99), currently at the Port Vell in Barcelona, is one of the most advanced designs of the five made by VPLP andGuillaume Verdier. It has a LOA of 18.23 metres, a beam of 5.8 metres, a draught of 4.5 metres and a 7,500 kg displacement.
