Central Lechera Asturiana+

This is a début for Juan Merediz and Fran Palacio in a round the world competition. Juan has extensive experience in the Spanish cruiser circuit, dinghy sailing and Mini and Figaro Class offshore sailing: he raced in the 1995 and 1997 Mini Transat and reached second place in the newcomer class in the Solitaire du Figaro.

The boat

Central Lechera Asturiana is an Owen Clarke Design, built at the New Zealand Southern Yachts shipyard and launched in June 2003. Her CV boasts a Transat 2004 win, a bronze in the 2005 Vendée Globe, with Mike Golding as Ecover 2 and a fourth place Barcelona World Race finish in 2007/08 as Mutua Madrileña with skippers Bubi Sansó and Pachi Rivero. The yacht has a rotating mast which has given great performance over the years in terms of speed and reliability.
