Barcelona's Jaume Mumbrú and Cali Sanmartí are competing in the Barcelona World Race as the team We Are Water. The two skippers made their début in the IMOCA class as crew in the Round Spain Race this year, where they managed to overcome considerable adversity.
Jaume Mumbrú is a lawyer with a long track record as a solo sailor. He has been one of Spain's most active Mini Class sailors, without renouncing competitions on larger yachts, as, for example, in the Tour of Europe 1999 onboard the IMOCA Open 60 Optral. Cali Sanmartí is an engineer and has been a pro in the sailing world since 2003, specialising in larger yachts. He's also combined competition in the Mini and larger yacht classes, competing in events such as Le Voiles de St Tropez and the Sydney-Hobart.
The team is making the most of the Barcelona World Race framework to take the name of the We Are Water foundation and its mission (to raise awareness of the need to reduce the negative effects of a lack of water resources) around the world. Murumbú's two Transat entries and many seasons on the ANS Circuit mean that he has extensive experience in solo and two-crew offshore racing, and combined with Sanmartí's impressive technical training gained on different large yachts this bodes well for the future of the team.

The boat
The yacht was launched in 2000 and has competed with various different sponsors, but always with the same sailor, Switzerland's Bernard Stamm, in many different regattas. Her track record features victories in the Around Alone 2002/2003 regatta, the Velux 5 Oceans in 2006/2007 and a solo Atlantic record in 2002. This is a Pierre Roland design, built in Brittany, France, under the direction of Bernard Stamm himself. Although this yacht is some ten years old (equivalent to two IMOCA Open 60 generations), her CV includes some two round the world victories and is fast and reliable. The We Are Water team received the yacht this summer and have been carrying out an extensive remodelling and refit in preparation for the upcoming Barcelona World Race with good prospects for reaching the project goals.
