Farewell to the skippers
Follow the skippers’ departure for the Barcelona World RACE
Tomorrow morning from 0930hrs from the Expo of the Barcelona World RACE
- Watch and experience all the emotions as the skippers leave for the non stop two handed round the world race.
- We Are Water, of the Catalan duo, Jaume Mumbrú and Cali Sanmartí will be the first boat to leave the Race Fleet Dock and then passing out via the Rambla del Mar. The other boats will leave at five minutes intervals.
- The mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, will receive the teams’ symbolic mooring lines in front of the Maremagnum mall, as the IMOCA Open 60’s parade out passed the Rambla del Mar.
- The 14 boats will then leave the port and parade along parallel to the Mar Bella beach off Barceloneta, before heading back to the start zone.
- The official start is at 1300hrs in front of the beach. The boats will head to a mark off the Besòs river passing the Port Olympico. Then they head directly for the Atlantic via the Straits of Gibraltar. You will be able to watch the start from the main beaches off Barceloneta
- There will be giant screens off the Plaza del Mar and the Portal de la Pau by the Columbus monument broadcasting the live images and audio commentary in Spanish from 0930hrs to 1330hrs.
