THE BARCELONA WORLD RACE MEDIA AWARDS

The main aim of the Barcelona World Race Media Awards is to boost the coverage of offshore sailing, which is an essential part of broadcasting regattas. In this round the world event content sent directly from the skippers on board the yachts is essential in bringing this extraordinary sport to both fans and the general public.

This edition of the Barcelona World Race has seen a great leap, a spectacular step, which has been made thanks to the skippers. They have created one of the main differentiating qualities of the regatta: the value of content direct from the experience, information from out on the ocean. This has improved the information from a live and interactive regatta, which has also been a lot easier to communicate.

In this way, the Barcelona World Race organisers and fans have much to thank the skippers for, who, with their photos, conference calls, texts and videos have allowed their adventure to be enjoyed day by day.

With the on board material sent through by the skippers, they have managed to make this one of the best covered and best documented offshore regattas in history.

The Barcelona World race Media Awards have only taken into account material sent from on board the boats during the regatta, even though the finish saw the boats deliver even more footage and photographs, which makes their efforts even more esteemed.

The Barcelona World Race established awards across four categories during its first edition: Audio, Photography; Text and Video.  The aim was and is to reward the work of the crews on board the yachts, who have created material and sent it through to the race organisers to offer a valuable contribution in race coverage.

In order to select the best work from the skippers, a judging panel was formed, made up of the Barcelona World Race Media Team as well as four well known figures from the media who have followed the regatta on a daily basis:

Jacint Felip, Assistant Director of Radio Nacional España-Ràdio Quatre in Catalunya; Didier Ravon, Editor in chief of Voiles et Voiliers; Víctor Lavagnini, Sports Editor for TV3 Televisió de Catalunya, and Suso Pérez,  Editor of La Vanguardia, La Vanguardia Magazine and Lavanguardia.es.
